What is the difference between filing your application in multiple countries and filing through the Madrid system?

The Trademark Registration Request in multiple countries that Nominus.com offers involves filing various individual applications in each country of interest. Alternatively, the Trademark Registration Request through the Madrid System is done with one base country application/registration which is then extended, through WIPO, to the rest of the countries of interest, referred to as “designated countries”.

Furthermore, the trademark registration through the Madrid System can be more cost-effective when considering various countries (an estimate of at least five countries).
